Virginia is so cool!

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people - the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about whech you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. The Commonwealth of Virginia history is a story filled with people who lived lives that impacted the world around them. You’ve probably not heard of Samuel L Gravely Jr., but in nearly 40 years in the Navy, he was a standout and repeatedly broke barriers becoming highly decorated. He was also the first African American Admiral in the Navy. Such an exemplary officer, Gravely Jr. ultimately rose to command the Navy’s Third Fleet, overseeing over 100 warships and 60,000 men and women. He was born and raised in Richmond, VA on the street now named after him, and ultimately retired there before his death. He now rests at the Arlington National Cemetery.

Our recent trip to the Commonwealth was fabulous, and we are so fortunate to have met other inspiring Virginians. It was so encouraging to talk with so many people that work hard in their careers or try to be the best parents while wholeheartedly loving and serving God. Virginians like Pam the biology graduate, Bill the single parent of adult children, Rob the music teacher, Rachel the chiropractor, Kelly the graphic designer, Andre and Brennan, Will and Lyndsey, Ryan, and so many more inspired us. We met school administrators, engineers, members of the military, single moms and single dads, and dozens of individuals who fight to walk with God and live their lives for Him as they navigate their path.

As you navigate through your transitions, be anchored in your times with God. Make Him your foundation with bible study, prayer, and let your light shine through your personal ministry. To the folks in Richmond, remember what “IPA” really represents. To the MIT FIT’s, you guys are our heroes, remember to “impress” your children by your example. To those at igniTED, remember the Wright brothers, and dream to soar. And in Charlottesville, “impress” your children as well as you teach good character. You are so encouraging.

A special thanks to Ed and Deb, Tony, Drew, Tony and Leslie for having us. And thanks to Paul and Chloe for being our most excellent hosts. We love you all.
